Parts Kitting is a Manufacturing World Best Practices initiative used to reduce cost, improve delivery times, and improve the quality of parts available. It provides parts vendors predictable volume and delivery schedule. This results in better parts availability at lower cost.

We put most of the parts required in a a rollaway kit in the 'pit' at the start of work. The mechanic does not have to leave the pit to get these parts or request more. Kitting improves parts availability and often reduces cost for repair parts.

Parts kits for each type of vehicle in the program have been identified based on our experience in the program. The kits are put together and delivered when called forward.

The pit crew will use all parts in the kit to replace worn parts on equipment. Other high demand parts are stocked in shop supply and are available on request through ALIMS.
