DSL is a modem technology that turns a customer's existing phone line into a three-channel data delivery system. One channel transmits voice services, so normal phone and fax usage continues whether or not you are accessing the Internet. A second channel transmits data downstream at high speeds, and a third bi-directional channel transmits data upstream. The downstream and upstream channels carry information to and from the Internet. Phone or fax calls occurring on the voice channel are not affected by your online activity occurring on the two data channels.
With WarpCore DSL Internet
access, you have a fast connection to the Internet.
2.
How does WarpCore DSL work?
WarpCore DSL is based
on Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), a super-fast modem technology
that can provide data transmissions at significantly higher speeds than your
standard 56K modem. WarpCore DSL transforms standard twisted-pair copper telephone
wires into a high-speed digital pipe. Since this wiring is already inplace in
most homes and offices, many of the users in our area can switch to WarpCore
DSL service without the need to run new wires to your location. WarpCore DSL
is designed to take advantage of the portion of the bandwidth not used for voice
calls. WarpCore DSL technology splits your phone line into three information
channels. One carries data at high speeds from the Internet to your home computer.
Another channel transports data at moderate speeds from your home computer to
the Internet. The third channel handles regular phone calls and faxes. You'll
be able to surf the Internet while making phone calls or sending a fax. Your
regular phone line will continue to work in the event that a power failure affects
your computer.
The DSL modem maintains
a digital link from your business to our network, driving ordinary telephone
lines at speeds far beyond conventional dial-up modems. The DSL modem can
be connected to your existing network (or directly to your PC using a special
cable).
3.
How fast is WarpCore DSL?
WarpCore DSL offers several
packages, starting with maximum connection speeds of up to 3.0MB downstream
and up to 512K upstream. Compare
the speeds. WarpCore DSL customers enjoy the ability to download files and
surf the Internet at lightning speeds.
4.
What solutions can WarpCore DSL provide growing businesses?
WarpCore DSL provides customized
solutions based upon your business needs, including:
5.
Can WarpCore DSL services neet the growing needs of my company?
Yes. As your company grows
and you need more and/or faster connections, WarpCore DSL can provide bandwidth
up to 3.0 Mbps at very reasonable prices. Furthermore, WarpCore DSL continually
offers additional enhanced services to meet your growing needs. Unlike dial-up
connections, WarpCore DSL service enables adding an unlimited number of users
to your DSL line.
6.
Can anyone have DSL services?
No. DSL technology
is a distance-sensitive service. To determine if your business is within the
WarpCore DSL area, please call our WarpCore DSL sales representative at: 1-866-323-9500.
7.
Can I keep my domain name and e-mail account when I convert to WarpCore
DSL service?
Yes. Your domain name can
be easily transferred and you can keep your e-mail account.
8.
Are Warpcore DSL customers able to use their telephone or fax machine while
accessing the Internet over WarpCore DSL?
Yes. WarpCore DSL allows
customers to use their existing phone line for voice communications or faxing
while they use WarpCore DSL service for Internet access or data communication
services.
9.
Does WarpCore DSL require installing an additional phone line?
No. WarpCore DSL technology
utilizes varying frequency spectrums for data transmission. This allows simultaneous
analog voice or fax and WarpCore DSL data transmission over the same telephone
line. You still use your phone as you do now.
10.
How does WarpCore DSL support both voice and data on the same line?
A device called a "splitter"
assigns voice and data transmissions to different frequencies. Digital bits
travel on the inaudible frequencies of your phone line. That keeps them separate,
and that's why all the signals - voice and data - can work in parellel without
colliding with each other. A WarpCore DSL modem spreads signals over many frequencies
on the line, carrying many times more information than an analog dial-up modem.
11.
Will my telephone work even if my computer or medem is unplugged or disabled?
Yes. DSL modems have been
designed so that your normal telephone service will operate even if the computer
or DSL modem is unplugged or otherwise disabled.
12. Can
I hook up more than one computer?
Yes, but the bandwidth will
be shared among all of the active connections. Also, WarpCore DSL does not provide
technical support for networks. If you choose to set up a network, you need
to have the appropriate network systems in place.
13. Am
I charged for the time my DSL modem or computer is online?
No. WarpCore DSL Internet
access is unlimited. You will not have to worry about how long your modem or
computer is in use or turned on.
14. Will
my current phone features work with DSL?
Yes. WarpCore DSL won't
affect Caller ID, Voice Mail, Call Waiting or other advanced calling features.
However, Distinctive Ring may not work with WarpCore DSL in some areas.
15. Can
I connect to AOL content?
Yes,
America Online offers a special TCP/IP account for customers who already have
high-speed internet access (ISDN, DSL, etc.). This allows you to use your WarpCore
DSL service to access AOL content.
16. How
much does WarpCore DSL cost?

17.
Do I need to sign a contract?
A minimum one year
service agreement is required.
18. Are
WarpCore DSL charges in addition to my current monthly phone bill charges?
Yes. WarpCore DSL
monthly recurring charges are in addition to your monthly telephone service
charges from Sprint.
19. What
equipment do I need for DSL access?
A DSL end-user must
be equipped with a DSL modem, Ethernet card and a computer. The DSL modem must
be compatible with our WarpCore DSL equipment and can be ordered from WarpCore
DSL. In addition, the end-user's computer must meet recommended minimum
system requirements.
20. How
is the service installed?
WarpCore DSL makes
the DSL installation easy.
Analog modems were designed to work on regular telephone lines and usually operate at speeds ranging from 28.8K to 56K. The main difference between analog and DSL modems is that an analog modem works over voice frequencies. It can't handle the higher - and much faster - digital frequencies. DSL actually takes a load off the voice channels by using the higher, non-voice frequencies.
Cable Modems
Some Internet connections are available through cable television lines that have been upgraded to carry data in two directions. However, you share bandwidth and this access with your neighborhood, so there is a possibility of slowdowns during peak-use periods just because your neighbors log on.
DSL
DSL technology provides a dedicated service over an
existing local connection to the WarpCore DSL central office near you. This
means that you don't have to share your local access connection with other
users. Click here to see
how DSL compares to dial-up modems and cable modems.
23.
When does scheduled maintenance occur on the WarpCore DSL network?
In order to minimize service
interruptions as much as possible, scheduled maintenance on the WarpCore DSL
network is typically performed between 1am and 4am ET on Wednesdays, and between
1am and 5am ET on Sundays (although WarpCore DSL reserves the right to alter
this schedule at its discretion).
24.
What happens if I drop my connection or have service problems?
DSL technology is similar
to a Local Area Network (LAN), therefore, you will not experience the same dropped
connections as you may with a dial-up modem. In addition, we are constantly
monitoring our network to assure optimum service. However, in the unusual event
that you do experience difficulties, WarpCore DSL offers a customer service
department with trained professionals available to assist you 24 hours per day,
365 days a year. Customer service can be reached at 1-866-323-9500.
